tyger: FFVII!Yuffie, grinning. Text: Yuffie (Yuffie - :D)

Soooo totally bombed a phone interview thing today, so that sucked. Was one of those job agency ones so not much was likely to come of it anyway, but the way my brain went TOTALLY BLANK and I couldn't even remember basic-ass shit was uh. Not encouraging. Sigh. I fucking hate phone calls, though this shit happens to me in person as well. Bleh.

Still, at least I got a call and gave it a go, it's exp if nothing else. Maybe I won't freeze up so bad next time! >:

Other than that... bunch of cleaning/tidying, as planned! Finished watching Tonari no Youkai-san, which is an extremely cute mostly-slice-of-life anime. Not sure if I mentioned I was watching it here or not. Anyway, it's pretty clearly aimed at primary school aged kids, but it's super cute and the worldbuilding is fantastic. (The last episode did make my cry like a bitch because of course it did. Happy end though!!!) Definite rec there, particularly if you like worldbuilding!

tyger: Axel, Roxas, and Xion, on the clocktower. (Axel Roxas and Xion - clocktower)

I completely finished Dredge!!! :D Got all the fish, all the achievements, did all the plot, etc. etc. etc. :D :D :D I am very proud of myself!

What a fun little game, yessss. :3 Do recommend if you're after something chill but slightly spooky. Which is appropriate because Spoopy Season is coming up, so it's even almost topical...

Anyway, other than that... work was work? Nothing amazing, nothing terrible, just work. Met A afterwards and that was fun, though! :D We went by the cashies and I managed to pick up ToTK, too, so whee LoZ collection getting closer to complete~! (I also picked up a copy of the PS3 KH 2.5 HD collection, which is the only game I didn't have in some form or another. It's remakes which is why I never felt compelled, but also nice to have it finally. :3)

In less fun news I may have lost my ipod. :( :( :( I definitely had it when I got to work, and I definitely don't now, it's extremely annoying. Hopefully I left it on my desk in the office - will ask someone about it tomorrow. Still, if it's gone, that's gonna kinda suck. Not like I can get a new one! Bleh. Anyway, we'll see I guess.

tyger: Lexaeus' Avatar Kingdom chibi. Text: Lexaeus (Lexaeus - chibi)

It was hot today! (It's still pretty hot for some people, hahaha, only supposed to get down to mid-20s tonight :D) I had a most excellent day of flopping and playing video games!

Speaking of, I finished Wytchwood! ( Minor spoilers )

Fun game overall, definitely worth playing! Only like 10 hours though (and could easily be less if you're less of a gatherer than I am), so uh maybe don't pay full price for it. (It's like $30 on Steam so... I got it in a bundle, though, because of course I did. :3)

Other than that, really not much today. Mostly reading. Had a fucking headache all day, probably from not eating enough - I DEFINITELY drank enough water. Just. So much. SO much. Any more and my kidneys would start aching, sort of thing. Did drop into the supermarket and got a couple of things, though I wasn't exactly with it enough to make actual decisions and so didn't get a whole lot. But I've got stuff for shitty burritos, plus some snacks, so that should help!

Anyway, time for naps now! Hopefully. If I don't keep having to get up because of all that goddamn water......

tyger: Roxas, from Deep Dive. Text: (un)Natural light (Roxas - (un)Natural Light)

Biggest thing today was we went to see Grandma. It was... well. I've been hearing about stuff, but also it's different so see it. ( Grandma, day rambles, tomorrow plans. )

ALSO!!! Azy linked me to Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi, which is a VERY FUN isekai manga where the MC's three major defining characteristics are:

  • He has a very sensible outlook on everything, including being suspicious of politics and the ways they might screw him over
  • His summoning granted special ability is... he can order stuff back from Japan via the world's inbuilt GUI (/magic shit, but you know, it's a GUI), and it gets Magically Delivered instantly. In a cardboard box, so aside from the magical bits it's just "he can order shit online"
  • He's a really good cook

There are many, MANY shenanigans the ensue, it's great. :D Particularly since the author takes the time to at least try and explain why the magical world works like that. Like, why are there adventurers? What's up with all the dungeons? Why are there monsters everywhere? There's nothing super in depth, at least yet, but it's got a consistent framework, and it feels like there's solid rules and reasons behind everything, they're just not coming up for storytelling reasons. Which for a worldbuilding nerd like me is so nice.

Also there's exactly zero angst about 'o no why me how get home'; MC is, as stated, very sensible, and is just pmuch 'this might as well happen' about the isekai bit. He has Major Complaints about some things, but as those things are generally things that could kill him very dead, I'm pretty sympathetic (even if most of the other characters aren't XD). Anyway, there's only 50-odd chapters out so far, so it's pretty quick to get through if it sounds like you might like it! Currently finishes at the end of an arc, too, which I found very pleasing.

ANYWAY. Bed now. Gotta do stuff in the morning, etc. etc., so yes. Sleeps!

tyger: Mickey in his OXIII coat. Text: Light in Darkness (Mickey - Light In Darkness)

Turns out I was right, and NewPi was indeed refusing to let me connect because it didn't have the right wifi password! Even though it was also connected to ethernet! Definitely gotta check if there's a setting where I can get it to default to ethernet and only access the wifi if that's not working.

( Blather )

Other than that, read all the Hugo noms for Short Story, since that's a category I can actually read everything in before the deadline. My favourite was A Guide For Working Breeds by Vina Jie-Min Prasad, very very narrowly beating out Little Free Library by Naomi Kritzer. The first one is AI Shenanigans, and the second one is more magical realism, both of which are ENTIRELY my jam. |D Anyway you should read them if you think that sounds interesting!!!

( More blather )

Aaaand it's not even 6am and yet it's very slightly starting to get light. Sigh. Bed now, yes. But maybe playing with Docker tomorrow!

tyger: Random pattern from the Re:coded Ultimania, messed with until it's white on a black background. (Kingdom Hearts - pattern)

I maaaaybe spent a lot of time on this today. >>;;; It's actually an anime! I watched tv!!! I started yesterday and now I'm at S2E8, what even.

( Ramble! Possibly slight spoilers? Only little ones if so. )

Anyway IDK how it does as actual disabled rep, but like. MC has an invisible illness! That at least thus far isn't magically cured! So I'm enjoying that. But mostly I enjoy just how ridiculous and fun it is! :D

Other than that... I did do some uni work! I in fact did THREE ENTIRE THINGS, though they were small things. But that's still three things! Tomorrow gotta write up some docs, I think, yes. Also a meeting. Which is honestly good because while I've gotten things done/as done as possible until $thing out of my control is done this week, my hours are. Not good. :/

tyger: Ven's Avatar Kingdom chibi. Text: Ventus (Ven - chibi)
So today I did things and mostly they are either boring or personal (not for me, but also I'm not gonna just spew someone else's personal business all up in here!), and basically I had A Very Long Day and due to timing of things I didn't get to have a lay down in the afternoon like I wanted to but! I have kept going!! So that's good, I guess??

Some highlights:

( A little longer than I like to leave alone )

Also I accidentally played through the entirety of the mobile game 'Clay Island' this evening. (I was poking it while my computer restarted, theoretically.) Cute little game! Got two endings, so I will go back and get the second one sometime too! (Just maybe not, you know, in one session. >>;; )

Anyway, if you like gathering-crafting-survival type games, worth a try! (Put your phone on aeroplane mode to stop the ads though. There's a LOT.) The characters/set/etc were all made out of modelling clay! I THINK the gameplay stuff was scanned in with a 3D scanner or something, but the opening and ending cutscenes are almost certainly stop motion, which is just kind of amazing! :D
tyger: (KH!)Cid, smirking. Text: ...well damn. (Cid - Well damn)

However!! If you like both Bleach and Harry Potter, I HAVE A FIC TO REC YOU!

There May Be Some Collateral Damage, by metisket

It's THE WORLD'S BEST 5TH YEAR AU, featuring Kurosaki Ichigo, world's worst bodyguard (but world's best chaotic-good strawberry).

I've foisted the link off on two people already, and here's the line that not only made me understand that this fic was going to be FANTASTIC, but they both pasted back at me:

“Urahara-san and Yoruichi-san?” Ichigo asks, surprised. “I know why I’m going along with this, but why are they going along with this?”

“According to Urahara,” Renji says, “they’re bored.”

Well that’s the most terrifying thing Ichigo’s heard all month.

May have fucked up prac exam, which is annoying. (Everything was working fine! And then I tried to configure port security and I think it broke my trunking and yeaaaah orz.) Pretty sure I did well on the paper test, at least? And we'll see how the other goes.

Other than that, had a pretty good day! Weather was miserable and cold, but eh, it's April, what can you do?

Also, two cool things:

1. Runeshard, which is a kinda-RPG game that has a free demo up at the moment - one of the youtubers I watch started a let's play series, and I downloaded it and it's pretty fun! I'm kinda terrible at it so far, but I've only played a little while soooo. (Also, it's a demo. You can't expect a perfectly balanced game from a demo.)

2. I also learned that the Halal Snack Pack is a thing and guess what I'm having for lunch tomorrow, holy crap that sounds SO GOOD.

Ugh.

tyger: Lea handing Isa a sea-salt ice cream. (Lea and Isa)
Today was full of bureaucratic nightmares, and I fucking want to hit some stupid fucking policy shit where it hurts. Will see if my polite letter gets them to stop being assholes, but who the fuck knows. :/

Other than that, I finished reading Ashlesha, by Jer Keene. Is mainly known for being a fanfic author, but hey, profic (and they're going though a bitch of a time financially at the moment, so yeah, supporting where I can). You can really see how it started life as a heavily AU fic, particularly if you're familiar with they way they write, but it stands solid on its own and is a super fun military-industrial-complex/conspiracy-theory/meet-cute/fuck-fuck-shit-on-the-run sort of story in its own right! With Weird Not'magic Shit, just to keep things extra fun. :3 :3 :3

Anyway, it was a super fun read, so if you have some spare cash and my admittedly kinda shitty summary sounds interesting, maybe give it a shot?

Orcish Inn

tyger: Lea handing Isa a sea-salt ice cream. (Lea and Isa)
Yeah, I'm aware of what the time is. Now. >>;;

Soooo Tooki over on YouTube started doing a series of let's plays for a game called Orcish Inn. She describes it as "kind of like Stardew Valley, but you're an orc, and we're running a pub".

It's AMAZING.

You can download the pre-alpha for free over here on itch.io (Win or Linux), or via Steam (it's on the sidebar, not below the pictures, since it's not the actual game just a prerelease), and it's basically a farming-slash-shopkeeping sim of AWESOME. It's got all the things I like about Harvest Moon type games (building things! growing things! gathering things! exploring!), and none of the things that make my brain twitch so much I can't actually play (TIME-SENSITIVE NPC BULLSHIT), and basically I played a couple of hours to get my head around what the game actually is, then rerolled a new game and then suddenly it was 3:30am. Um. >> (I haven't even built my pub yet! I did successfully brew beer, though, I am proud. :3)

Anyway I think it's amazing and you should totally play it if you like farming type sim games! Also, you can't actually die, so even when you fuck up and have no food (I have done this A LOT okay) you just get crazy bad status effects that will, in fact, wear off. EVENTUALLY.

[personal profile] untonuggan I really, REALLY think you'll like this game, you should give it a try. :D
tyger: Blurry Roxas at the base of the skyscraper from Deep Dive. Text: nobody (Roxas - nobody)
Bluh.

At least today I was up way later than I meant to be for a good reason - a friend of mine is going through a bad patch, so I was sharing some of the shit I know about brain management. ( Read more... )

Other than that... I went on a pretty massive walk today! :D ALSO I spent some time digging out ivy in the garden! I had to lay down to recover from that one, but it was so worth it. :3 Also also I got some work on comms done, and THEN, in a stunning twist of self-care, spent the evening playing a stupid clicky game rather than do more comm work and risk burning myself out.

It was actually pretty good for a stupid clicky game, too! Called Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim's Hook. ( Blather! )

NTS: Write a review on Steam tomorrow, you've been meaning to do that more and it's a good opportunity.
tyger: Axel, Roxas, and Xion, on the clocktower. (Default)
So today I pmuch did fuck all, because it was hot. It's still hot, in fact! It's amazing, but not really conductive to getting shit done.

But I DID play Detective Grimoire! The whole thing, it's not a particularly long game (I still have two Steam card drops I have to have it open to get!). I honestly really enjoyed it! It's pretty clearly aimed at a younger audience than I'm used to - probably like 8-12ish age? I'm not sure I'm bad at guessing that - because the puzzles were all pretty damn easy (it's not really a puzzle game though which helps I guess?). But that just means the fairly simplistic story and occasional logic-jumps didn't annoy me - it's designed so that small humans can keep the entire thing in their heads, of course it's not super complex! And honestly, for a point and click adventure game, the plot was definitely on the higher end of the 'coherent and sensible' spectrum.

Anyway, I had a great time, and it left me wanting Moar Adventures in the 'verse, which I think will be forthcoming, yay! :D I payed like $1.50 or something for it on Steam, too, since it's Winter Sales O'clock, which I do think was a good price. I'm guessing it's a port of a mobile game, too, so possibly on one of those thingies. Anyway, if you like point and click adventure games, and/or detective stories, you might enjoy it!

I hurt. :(

tyger: Aqua, from the BbS opening cutscene (Aqua - >|)
For a neat trick, though, it's not my ankle! Or my other ankle! It's my arms and hands and upper back, instead. Which, honestly, not actually a surprise, but I'd mostly avoided it so far, so I had some hope it'd be fine? But no. Ow. Note to self: even if A has bumped into someone and is saying hi, do not stand up for long periods of time, it is bad for you when you are supporting your entire body weight with crutches. DEFINITELY don't try and take all your weight through your arms to give your good leg a rest, because oooooww.

Anyway, most of the day just kind of went... away... Napping, a bit, but also my friend Madb introduced me to a new game, called Zen Koi. In her words...

Madb: Have you checked out the clicky "Zen Koi"? It's very low key, you just fish along being a fish eating little fish until you're a dragon.
...
Madb: And that's the whole game. Fish along being a fish, eat things, expand the pond, have eggs, be a dragon

It's exactly the right level of focus/chill that when I'm having a fairly braindead day, like I have been today, it kind of... eats time. A lot of time. But it's fun! And pretty! And you get to be a fish! :D
tyger: Axel, Roxas, and Xion, on the clocktower. (Default)
I... did a little bit of study. Not a lot. Not what I'd hoped I'd do. But some.

I'm having a fuckton of anxiety and also my body is doing that thing again, where I'm not getting enough sleep and feel fuzzy-headed all day. I probably would've gone back to sleep this morning but I really need to try and shift my sleep-scedule back to proper diurnal at least until AFTER this week.

I'm not doing well, but I'm trying, basically. It'll be better once this exam is over; I'm a lot more stable when it comes to the programming stuff. I mean. I have a fuckton of paperwork I need to do for it, there's a lot of shit to throw together to make up my portfolio, and I really should have done more than I have, but it's all stuff I understand how to do. I have done paperwork before, it's tedious and draining but not, you know, something that requires a lot of problem-solving brainpower.

Anyway, here are those gen fic recs I promised [personal profile] untonuggan a bit ago. I keep forgetting to post them, but I guess better late than never.

( 5 Bucky recovery fics. )
tyger: Beat, hand on his hat and laughing. (Beat - Bwahahaha)
I spent like two and a half hours in the helpdesk, and didn't get any lunch until something like 3:30, BUT IT IS DONE. :D Hopefully it's up to scratch! Will find out on Wednesday, yes.

It wasn't easy, and it involved me asking for help a whole bunch, from two different tutors - they're on duty in shifts - but! I got there in the end and it works, which makes me happy. :3

That was pretty much my day, though, so... yes.

But I did write up a bunch of recs for Liz this evening, who is looking for fics where Tony Stark invents accessibility devices. These don't exactly fit what she's looking for, but when I asked she said Bucky recovery-fic is also okay, and also they're all still pretty great. So I might as well post them here, too!

( MCU/Bucky Barnes recovery-type fics, two of which heavily involve robots, one of which involves sarcasm so thick you could sit on it, and all of which make me wish I could give psychic hugs to fictional characters from a very safe distance. )
tyger: Eraqus' Avatar Kingdom chibi. Text: Eraqus (Master Eraqus - chibi)
I have less things to do on weekends, according to my habitica schedule, so I was able to tick all the things off pretty easily even though I read fic most of the day. >>;;

The big thing I read was Love is All You Need To Destroy Your Enemies, which is an absolutely amazeballs Dresden Files/Welcome to Night Vale fusion crossover. No really. It's so great. Carlos is not, in fact, a scientist, but Carlos Ramirez, wizard. He is in fact literally making shit up when he talks about science. (The rest of the scientists are actually scientists, and are also wonderfully fleshed out awesome characters I want to squeeze. And possibly have monitored for accidental supervillianry.) There's a lot of time travel, and also Harry Dresden does in fact eventually show up. ( Minor, hilarious spoiler )

Not sure if it'd make much sense without knowledge of Dresden Files, but you can probably get away without WtNV. Helpful hint: canon really is that fucking weird, just go with it. Like, even the bits that aren't actual canon fit in perfectly with Night Vale's Night Vale-ness.
tyger: Izumi hugging Ed and Al (Izumi - hugs)
Today was pretty quiet, which was nice. Didn't leave the house!

Some good things:

1. Played a bunch of games! :D I do like gaming, though keyboards are hard. (See below, heh.) This included The Old Tree* - it's free to play, and only takes about ten minutes (maybe a little longer if you're not as familiar with point and click games as I am). 100% dialogue free, it's just... nice. It's really more like a visual picture book with interactive elements than a game - kinda like a pop-up book, but requiring slightly more thinking than that. Not *much* more, though, I'm fairly sure almost anyone could play through it. :3 Anyway, definitely recommend if you like odd but sweet atmospheric fiction experiences, which is kinda a mouthful but hey. :3

*I played it through Steam, but that's the dev's official site, so. ^^-

2. I made a pav for tomorrow! Yay! :3

3. Hung out with Azy a bunch which is awesome. Times when we're both not at work are a lot fewer than they used to be. :/ Life is dumb, basically, but what can you do. Have fun while you can, I guess! |D

Annoying thing: ( Cut for grump and also long post is long. PS3 controller on PC. )
tyger: Demyx's Avatar Kingdom chibi. Text: Demyx (Demyx - chibi)
Work was work. Nothing exciting.

Came home and basically all I did was read fic. Because the series I'm reading was right in the middle of some hardcore action/plot sequences and ahhhhhhhhhh.

If anyone knows both WTNV and HDM and hasn't yet read He Says He Is An Experimental Theologian, I highly recommend it. Possibly the greatest fusion-style crossover I've ever read; I poked it because I love daemon-AUs even more than I love psychic wolf AUs, but it's really not a daemon AU. It will probably not make much sense if all you know is the idea of daemons. It's a true fusion crossover, and it's SO GREAT. :D :D :D :D :D

( Enthusiastic rec under the cut )

Um, I was gonna say something else but it's fallen splat out of my brain. So I'mma go bed now. Yes.
tyger: Animated Lea from BbS. (Lea - うれしいねぇ-)
Self, even though you don't have to get up tomorrow morning if you don't have to, doesn't mean you should fuck your sleep schedule up etc. etc. etc.

Work was quiet today, which was nice. Sibling and SO came over for tea, which was also good, though I had to just. Not socialise much, brains just not up to it.

Reading a really really great Homestuck liveblog. It's something like two years old and still only in early-ish Act 5, but the author is A++ best commentary, and really super insightful, so it's like a delicious meta post rolled up with reaction flail, it's so great. Kinda like the embodiment of the experience of reading Homestuck for the first time, more than anything - it definitely wouldn't work as a reading-Homestuck-substitue cliffnotes version, it does require you know know roughly wtf is going on. Not a recap, in other words.

Anyway, hopefully tomorrow will be arts! Also, sleeeeep.
